Now that the Canal Shores Golf Course has received a city license to sell beer at the pro shop, golf association leaders will be celebrating next week.
Evanston-based Sketchbook Brewing has created a special craft beer for Canal Shores for the summer golf season, Level Par Lager. It will be sold in cans at the Canal Shores Pro Shop and on draft at Sketchbook’s taprooms in Evanston and Skokie.
A ceremonial “First Beer” toast will take place on the patio at Canal Shores at 4 p.m Wednesday, May 26. Mayor Daniel Biss and Ald. Eleanor Revelle (7th) will join golfers and neighbors for the event.
“We are happy to offer golfers cold beer for sale at the pro shop, and even better, excellent craft beer that’s made locally and that honors our golf course,” said Karl Leinberger, president of the Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association that manages the course. “We appreciate the opportunity to add to the overall experience Canal Shores offers golfers.”
Canal Shores’ mission emphasizes serving the community with open green space, introducing kids to the sport of golf, and improving the ecological health of its 82 acres.
Leinberger says the 18-hole, par 60 golf course in Evanston and Wilmette also offers fast, fun and flexible five- and 10-hole loop options. Its tight fairways wind through neighborhoods, tunnel under the L tracks, and include two signature over-the-canal shots.
Canal Shores receives no public funding and relies solely on greens fees, event fees and private fundraising. All donations are tax deductible.
