Evanston police say a bicycle and a car collided in the 2200 block of Church Street about 7:45 this morning. The injured bike rider was taken to St. Francis Hospital.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says a preliminary investigation by police determined that the cyclist, a 15-year-old Evanston resident, was riding to summer school classes at Evanston Township High School.

Parrott says the cyclist was riding eastbound on Church in the westrbound curb lane, against the flow of traffic, when he turned in front of a vehicle westbound vehicle and was struck by the car.

Evanston Fire Department paramedics transported the bicyclist to St. Francis.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Parrott says, and no citations are expected to be issued against the driver of the car.
