Evanston police say a teen-age would-be bike thief was thwarted Tuesday night about 8:30 p.m. when he tried to steal a bike from a male victim at 1919 Dempster St.

The victim, whose age police did not provide, refused to hand over the bike, and ended up getting punched in the face by his assailant before the would-be thief ran off empty handed.

The victim described his attacker as being about 5-feet-5-inches tall, weighing 140 pounds and wearing a white tee-shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.
