Bill’s Blues license suspended

Evanston’s Liquor Control Review Board voted Monday to suspend the license of Bill’s Blues, 1029 Davis St., for non-payment of liquor taxes.

Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said bar owner Bill Gilmore has fallen four months behind on paying the city tax on liquor sales and also is behind on state liquor tax payments.

Tisdahl told Evanston Now Monday night that if payment isn’t made within a week, the music venue’s liquor license will be revoked.

She added that she’s heard the bar’s landlord is also threatening to evict the business for nonpayment of rent.

During a hearing back in July, the board decided not to suspend the bar’s license after Gilmore made a last-minute payment of overdue liquor tax bills.
