Someone defaced the newly painted Black Lives Matter sign on Dodge Avenue overnight by tossing what appeared to be about a gallon of white paint across a couple of the letters.

The slogan had been painted on the street in huge letters by members of the Evanston Township High School basketball team on Friday.

Interim City Manager Erika Storlie, who rode by on a bicycle this morning to inspect the damage, said the volunteers exhausted their supply of donated paint Friday but may be planning to put a second coat on their work this weekend.

To give some time for that, the city has decided to keep the street closed through Monday.

  1. How do I donate more paint

I am happy to buy more paint to repair this mural.  Let me know what is needed.
