We should have pleasant weather Thursday — but the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Evanston for Friday morning through Saturday evening.
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s and nighttime lows will only be in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees. Peak Heat Indices are expected to hit the 105 to 115 degree range.
The high temperatures, combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity, even at night, will lead to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
The Weather Service recommends that residents drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
