Bouzi guilty of attempted murder

An Evanston man was found guilty in Skokie district court today of attempted murder in a shotgon attack last summer on an Evanston police officer.

Judge Garritt Howard found Antoine Bouzi, 19, of 1109 Pitner Ave., guilty of attempted first degree murder of a peace officer and several related charges.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on July 29, Evanston police responding to a report of a disturbance in the 1800 block of Brown Avenue confronted two men arguing in the street.

Police say one of the men, later identified as Bouzi, attempted to flee and then turned and fired two shots from a sawed-off shotgun, narrowly missing the officer and hitting a nearby building.

Officers recovered the shotgun, and interviews with witnesses led to the arrest by Chicago police of Bouzi a few days later.

The attempted murder charge carries a mandatory 20-year prison sentence.

Sentencing in the case is scheduled for March 20.
