Brazen thefts from victims’ hands

Also, four bicycles were reported stolen throughout the city.

In one case, cash was taken from a victim’s hands. In another, a wallet was grabbed out of a victim’s hands. These among stories in today’s crime bulletin from Evanston police.

THEFT

1500 Sherman

Cash was taken from the hands of a 54-year-old Evanston man in the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue at 11:27 a.m. Friday.

100 Clyde

A wallet, with its contents, was taken from the hands of a 42-year-old Evanston woman in the 100 block of Clyde Avenue at 2:53 a.m. yesterday.

500 Main

A black and red Fuji Absolute bicycle was taken from a light pole in the 500 block of Main Street between 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. yesterday.

1000 Davis

A Burgundy Trek Verve 2 bicycle that was secured to a bike rack in the 1000 block of Davis Street was stolen between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Friday.

900 Ashland

An unsecured red and gray Huffy Terra Nova bicycle was taken from a park in the 900 block of Ashland Avenue around 4 p.m. Friday.

1900 Sherman

A black Schwinn bicycle that was secured to a bike rack in the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue was stolen between 5 p.m. Friday and 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

1800 Laurel

A white 2017 Ford Fusion was stolen from the 1800 block of Laurel Avenue between 3 p.m. Friday and 11:35 a.m. yesterday. It was found later in Evanston.

2200 Ashland

A catalytic converter was removed from a 1997 Chevrolet in the 2200 block of Ashland Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Friday.

2400 Howard

Miscellaneous items were stolen from the Jewel-Osco grocery store in the 2400 block of Howard Street at 10:54 a.m. Friday.

1600 Chicago

Food items were stolen from the Whole Foods Market in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

BATTERY

1305 Pitner

Michael M. Rivera, 31, of 2057 W. Jarvis Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 1305 Pitner Ave. at 5:42 p.m. Saturday and charged with battery.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Chicago at Grove

Something broke the passenger-side mirror on a 2002 Acura near Chicago Avenue and Grove Street at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

GRAFFITI

821 Davis

Graffiti was found on the city parking garage in the 800 block of Davis Street at 2:12 p.m. Friday.

OTHER

500 Howard

Police received a report at 4:42 p.m. yesterday of a man with a gun at a gas station in the 500 block of Howard Street. When they checked the area, no one was located.

SHOTS HEARD

300 Custer

Gunshots were reported in the 300 block of Custer Avenue at 11:23 p.m. Friday. Police checked the area but found nothing.

TRAFFIC

Howard at Wolcott

Augustina Pagan, 42, of 2747 W. Cermak Road, Chicago, was arrested at Howard Street and Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, at 4:04 a.m. yesterday and charged with driving under the influence.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute an assumption of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Court in Skokie.
