Recap Administration and Public Works Committee

Here's a recap of our live coverage of this evening's Evanston City Council Administration and Public Works Committee meeting. The committee is scheduled to approve a contract for environmental monitoring at the waste transfer station, an incentive for people to use the mobile wallet in in the ParkEvanston app and contract agreements with two city unions.

Alderman Cicely Fleming, 9th Ward, is filling in as chair this evening, Alderman Robin Rue Simmons, 5th Ward, is delayed in traffic. Alderman Peter Braithwaite, 2nd Ward, is out of town.

A 8 - ParkEvanston mobile app wallet incentive

$5 one-time bonus fee for use of the mobile wallet ...valid through May 31.

Jill Velan, parking division manager says can visit civic center to load wallet or do it online with a credit card.

Advantage to the city is that it reduces credit card processing fees compared to paying for parking one session at a time.

A 11 - Contract agreement: Evanston Police Sergeants

Fleming asks what savings city is achieving.

Assistant City Manager Erika Storlie says the agreements are a big step forward.

Last year had budgeted what would have been a 2.6 percent increase -- took that out in budget discussion and replaced with a zero.

Says the difference amounts to about $66K for the sergeants and $346K for AFSCME.

Fleming says thanks to the employees for understanding that the taxpayers have a cap on their ability to pay.

Rue Simmons says this has been a long time coming. Says she, Braithwaite, staff and neighbors have been working to get this monitoring of environmental conditions around the Church Street waste transfer station.
