A6 - Contract with W Construction Inc for Fleetwood-Jourdain interior renovation.
Alderman Robin Rue Simmons, 5th Ward, asks about local preferance for bids.
City Engineer Lara Biggs says that on request for proposals local and minority hiring was a 10 point preference on the selection process.
A7 - Hacienda Landscaping contract for Garden Park renovations.
Alderman Cicely Fleming, 9th Ward, wants review of parking restrictions in the area.
A13 - CNSCVB funding
Fleming questions value received.
Gina Speckman, executive director of CNSCVB says bureau has $1.8 milion budget. Says goal is to grow the hotel tax because it's paid by out-of-towners.
Says the hotels thrive on group business booked into the hotels through leads generated by the convention bureau. Says provided 491 leads in past year.
Says also supports restaurants and retailers in Evanston.
Says has strong member base of Evanston businesses -- they wouldn't be members if they didn't see benefits.
City payment to the bureau for the year is $83,609. Funding comes from hotel tax. Hotel tax revenue increased 13 percent last year, she says.
In response to question from Rainey, says has added an incentive program to respond to increase hotel room availability (8,000 additional rooms in the past three years) in Chicago and has added a sales rep to the staff. Says the addition of the Hyatt in Evanston has increased hotel business here.
