U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Evanston has won election to a 10th term in the U.S. House, defeating Republican challenger Joan McCarthy Lasonde by  wide margin.

With more than half the precincts counted, Schakowsky has built up an insurmountable lead.

In suburban precincts Schakowsky has nearly 69,000 votes to under 46,000 for Lasonde.

In Chicago precincts Schakowsky has nearly 54,000 votes to just over 14,000 for Lasonde.

In recent campaigns Schakowsky has typically ended up with about two thirds of the vote. She appears to be positioned to do at least that well again tonight.

Update 4:40 a.m. 11/9/16: With complete but unofficial returns in from all precincts, Schakowsky ended up with 66 percent of the vote overall. She won nearly 80 percent of the vote in Chicago precincts and nearly 60 percent in suburban ones.
