Brokerage expands to Evanston

Residential real estate brokerage @Properties has opened an office in the Optima Horizons building in downtown Evanston.

Residential real estate brokerage @Properties has opened an office in the Optima Horizons building in downtown Evanston.

The space at 1821 Benson Ave. at one time had been offices for the project’s developer, David Hovey’s Optima Inc., and had been vacant for some time.

@Properties co-founder Thaddeus Wong says the office opened last week with 26 agents. He told Crain’s Chicago Business that it’s “the beginning of what we consider our North Shore campaign.”

The firm has grown rapidly since its launch in 2000 and now has five locations on Chicago’s north side. Last year it was the third-largest brokerage in the state in terms of sales transactions.

It has largely focused on condominium properties, and some competitors suggest it may have difficulty switching to the suburban market dominated by detached single-family homes.

But Wong says many of its condo-buying customers are now ready to move up to single-family suburban houses and he wants the firm to be able to serve them again.
