Edzo’s Burger Shop in downtown Evanston has been named one of the top nine “cheap eats” places in Chicagoland by Bon Appetit magazine in its September issue.

Edzo’s also was the only restaurant mentioned by the magazine that’s located outside the City of Chicago itself.

In addition to praising the burgers, the writer likes “the fries dusted with truffle salt and Parmesan,” and says, “Don’t miss ultra-creamy ‘Five Dollar’ milk shakes that cost only $4.”

Edzo’s is at 1571 Sherman Ave. But don’t plan to check it out this Sunday. Owner Eddie Lakin says he’s taking the day off for Labor Day weekend festivities. The restaurant is always closed on Mondays.

  1. Don’t bother planning dinner at Edzo’s.

They inconveniently close at the strange hour of 4:00pm.

  2. Maybe I went on an off day,

Maybe I went on an off day, but the only time I have been there I did not walk away impressed. I’ll probably give it another try, but the hours of operation are so bad i don’t know when that is going to happen.

  3. Bother? Inconvenient? It’s a LUNCH joint!

I’d say staying open as late as 4pm is pretty good for a LUNCH place that focuses on serving up fabulous burgers made from freshly-ground beef (done daily right there at the shop!)

Yes, you’ll have to wait in line if you hit the lunch-hour rush, but you WILL be rewarded with (as Jules in Pulp Fiction proclaimed) a TASTY BURGER.

Oh well, your loss–more for me!  (I think I know where I’m headed RIGHT NOW!)
