A 43-year-old Evanston man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to a burglary charge in Skokie district court.

Andre D. Shearer, of 252 Custer Ave., was arrested on March 7 about 12:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road where he allegedly was threatening another man in a dispute over money.

Police say that after his arrest they determined that Shearer matched the description of a man seen in a surveillance video removing a television, video player and hair extensions from a beauty shop in the 700 block of Howard Street on Feb. 17.

He pled guilty on that charge Tuesday and, in addition to the nine years in prison, was fined $439 and given three years of mandatory supervision after his release.

Shearer had been on parole on a burglary charge at the time of his arrest.
