Burglars tried to break into two businesses on Howard Street on Tuesday but failed in the effort. Those among the stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Burglary

2200 Howard

Someone tried to force open a door at a department store in the 2200 block of Howard Street about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

2300 Howard

Someone tried to pry open a door at a department store in the 2300 block of Howard Street between 7:08 a.m. and 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

2000 Seward

Smeone used an open window to gain access to a 2002 Dodge parked in an alley in the 2000 block of Seward Stteeet between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday and took documents from the vehicle.

700 Mulford

Someone broke a window of a 2002 Acura parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Mulford Street and stole a bag sometime between 6:35 p.m. Monday and 7:39 a.m. Tuesday.

Battery

1454 Elmwood

Todd A. Wade, 56, of 319 Adams Ave. in Glencoe, was arrested at the Evanston police station, 1454 Elmwood Ave., at 3:49 p.m. Saturday and charged with battery.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says Wade got into a dispute near Clark Street beach with the owners of a dog walking service after he found a dog they were caring for that had gotten loose.

Criminal damage

Davis at Ridge

Someone broke a mirror on a 2014 Volkswagen parked on Davis Street near Ridge Avenue. The damage was discovered at 6:54 p.m. Tuesday.

Man with gun

900 Dodge

Police received a report of a man with a gun in the 900 block of Dodge Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. They checked the area but weren’t able to confirm the report.

Shots heard

Dewey at Davis

A caller reported hearing shots fired at 12:42 a.m. today near the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Davis Street. Police checked the area but found no evidence.

1900 Dewey

A caller reported hearing shots fired in the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue at 10:59 p.m. Tuesday. Police checked the area but found no evidence.

Theft

900 Sherman

Someone stole a locked bicycle from the common area of an apartment building in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Aug. 16.

1600 Sherman

Someone stole a cell phone from a locker at the LA Fitness athletic club in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue. The theft was discovered at 3:08 p.m. Tuesday.

1600 Thelin

Unsecured bicyles were stolen form the common area of an apartment buiding in the 1600 block of Thelin Court between 10 p.m. Monday at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

2700 Lawndale

Someone stole a package containing clothing that had been delivered to a home in the 2700 block of Lawndale Avenue between 4 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 10.
