An Evanston man has been charged with felony possession of burglary tools after he allegedly tried to break into a home in the 1000 block of Darrow Avenue about noon Monday.

Police Cmdr. Diane Davis says a caller provided a detailed description of the man seen trying to break into the home. And officers say Andre Peart, 20, who they found a couple blocks away in the 1500 block of Greenleaf Street matched the description.

After stopping Peart, the officers say they found a hammer, a screwdriver, gloves and dog treats inside his backpack.

Davis says that after Peart was taken to the police station, he admitted he had planned to break into the home on Darrow.

Peart, who lives in the 1300 block of Dewey Avenue, now is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. April 16 in district court in Skokie.
