The sound of breaking glass at 2 a.m. led to burglary charges against an Evanston man this week.

Police say residents of the 2100 block of Pioneer Road in northwest Evanston called police after they heard the glass breaking early Tuesday morning and saw a man acting suspiciously in a car parked on the block.

Responding officers say a man who appeared to match the description provided by the residents ran off when they tried to talk to him. After a chase through back yards on the block, he was found hiding in some bushes and was taken into custody.

Police say the man, 43-year-old Jeffery Williams of 3315 Simpson St., was also found to be carrying a spring-operated knife.

He’s scheduled to appear in Skokie District Court on Wednesday on charges of burglary and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
