A 71-year-old school bus driver has been charged with misdemeanor battery after an incident Friday on a District 65 school bus in Evanston.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says David Rennie, 71, of the 4900 block of North Kenmore in Chicago, was driving a Positive Connections bus from Orrington School in the 1300 block of Foster Street about 4 p.m. on Friday when he stopped the bus and pushed and shoved a nine-year-old male student.

Glew says the child apparently was not injured in the incident, which was captured on the bus’s video camera and on a cell phone video recorded by another student.

Rennie was arrested Tuesday and bonded out on the charge. He’s due to appear in Skokie district court on March 22.

He reportedly has been terminated from his job with Positive Connections.
