A CTA bus broke down as it was turning from Davis Street onto Ridge Avenue around 2 o’clock this afternoon, snarling both southbound traffic lanes on Ridge.

Evanston police arrived and detoured southbound Ridge traffic onto westbound Davis to Asbury Avenue.

The things really got interesting when another CTA bus, trying to turn around the disabled one onto Ridge, got stuck, blocking traffic in both directions. It finally was able to back out, unplugging the northbound lanes. Passengers from the disabled bus were able to transfer to the other one to continue their journey

By 4:30 p.m. the broken bus had been moved enough so that it was only blocking one lane of traffic.

And, a CTA tow truck driver was getting ready to haul the bus away for repairs.
