The Wisconsin-based burger chain Culver’s reportedly is planning to open a restaurant on Howard Street in Evanston.

Alderman Ann Rainey, whose 8th Ward includes Howard, says the chain has reached an agreement to use the out-lot in front of the Jewel supermarket in the 2400 block of Howard Street.

The first Culver’s opened in Sauk City, Wis., in 1984, featuring ButterBurgers and frozen custard. It now has more than 450 restaurants in 19 states.

The closest existing one to Evanston is in Morton Grove.
