Evanston police say a driver for Norshore Cab was robbed and shot early this morning.

The 32-year-old driver told officers he’d picked up a man near Oakton Street and Dodge Avenue shortly before midnight.

The man asked to be taken to Main Street and Fowler Avenue. But about a block away, at Main and Pitner Avenue, the man asked to be let out of the cab.

When the driver asked to be paid, the man pulled a handgun and demanded money and the driver’s cell phone.

The driver gave the robber an unknown amount of money, but before he could turn over the phone, the robber started to get out of the cab and fired a shot from the gun which hit the victim’s right leg.

The robber then fled the area on foot.

Police say paramedics transported the driver to a local hospital where he’s being treated for the gunshot would, which is not considered to be life-threatening.

The robber is described as a black male in his 20s of medium height and thin build wearing a black jacket and cap and blue jeans.
