Even though the race is uncontested, Candance Chow launched her campaign Tuesday night for the Evanston/Skokie District 65 School Board in the waiting room of the Central Street Metra station with only minimal interference from passing trains.

She told Evanston Now that campaigning enables her to engage with voters interested in the schools and helps her to learn what is on the voters’ minds.

The Kingsley School mother and past PTA president is a strategic management consultant with an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and feels that the demands on her time for service on the board can be dealt with adequately through the flexibility of her job.

In formal remarks to her supporters, Chow promised to help bring innovative approaches to learning by utilizing some of the same techniques she espouses to her clients, especially in the area of teacher evaluations, where measurement systems, she contends, can be an important element in achieving a culture of continuous improvement.

Chow is one of four candidates vying for four spots on the District 65 board, which led her to quip: “At least at these events, I won’t be asking my supporters for money.”
