Evanston fire fighters ordered a medical building at 1000 Central St. evacuated this afternoon after a car caught fire in the the building’s parking garage.

The fire, on the second level of the garage, was reported about 2:50 p.m. in the building across from Evanston Hospital.

It destroyed a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned by a person who was in the building for a doctor’s appointment, but no injuries were reported and the damage was limited to the car.

In addition to medical offices the building also houses a day care center. The cause of the fire is under investigation
