Evanston fire units are on the scene at this hour at 947 Florence Ave. where a car has hit a house, rupturing a gas main.

Police say that the car that crashed apparently was involved in a shots fired incident near Lee Street and Dodge Avenue shortly before the crash and they’re searching for a second car that is believed to have been involved.

Nicor crews have been called to shut off the gas leak.

Late this afternoon in the same general area police say they caught a suspect in an armed robbery at Florence Avenue and Madison Street after a foot chase from the robbery scene in the 1300 block of Dewey Avenue.

Police say they recovered a gun and items taken in the robbery from the suspect.
