Evanston police say charges have been filed against a 42-year-old Berwyn woman who allegedly stole money from the elderly Evanston woman she was caring for.

Blanca Fichera, of 3312 S. Clinton Ave. in Berwyn, now faces felony charges of financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says officers began an investigation of the case early this year after a resident called police with concerns about an elderly neighbor.

Parrott says police learned Fichera had made unauthorized withdrawals from the victim’s bank account on nine occasions from October through December by cashing checks totalling just over $29,000.

She’s scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on June 4.
