Chase Bank has announced it’s planning to close its branch at 901 Grove St. in Evanston.

The bank, in a letter to customers, says the branch is scheduled to close at noon on Thursday, Oct. 20.

The branch is being consolidated with the one in the 1603 Orrington building, about two blocks away.

Chase also has branches in Evanston at 635 Chicago Ave. and 1900 Central St.

  1. Drive up and more condos?

Always seemed odd that branch was still there, but is the only drive up teller access anywhere around the downtown. Or, the only one with usually open easy parking to go inside and talk about banking face to face.  There's inconsistent easy/fast parking downtown for people to hike into the building on Orrington to talk to teller or get banking assistance. Is the drive up area next to the Orrington building going to return to full functionality or continue to be an odd little Chase employee parking lot?

I do appreciate the notice being given now, and not have it be shuttered quickly one random Saturday afternoon.

If a new condominium development swallows the banks' footprint it will hulk over over Botti and the locksmith in the same manner as the building going up around Affordable Portables, Creative Coworking and Jays Barber on the North side.
