Evanston city officials are urging homeowners to check their second-installment tax bills to make sure they’re received all the exemptions they’re entitled to.

Tax bills were mailed earlier this month and payments are due Aug. 1.

Depending on whether they qualify, residents may receive homeowner, senior citizen, senior freeze, disabled persons’, returning or disabled veterans’ and sunset exemptions.

Residents can also get a refund for prior years’ exemptions that were not claimed if they file a certificate of error.

The Tax Assessment Review Office (formerly the Evanston Township Assessor’s Office), can provide further information about exemptions, answer residents’ questions and address concerns.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m. Residents are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 847-448-8168.

The office is located in Room 1450 on the first floor of the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
