Alderman Joe Moore, of Chicago’s 49th Ward, says Chicago police have told him Evanston gangs are to blame for a fatal shooting Sunday in Rogers Park.

In a statement posted on his website, Moore says police believe the shooting in the gangway of an apartment building in the 7400 block of North Ridge Boulevard occurred at an outdoor barbeque hosted by a man who had just moved into the building from Evanston and who police believe is a member of an Evanston street gang.

Two men approached people at the party about 8:45 p.m. Sunday and one of them opened fire. Two men were struck by the bullets and one, 29-year-old Paul Land, who lived on the block, later died at St. Francis Hospital.

An Evanston police spokesman told DNAinfo Chicago he couldn’t confirm that the shooting was linked to Evanston gangs, but that that was a possible explanation. An Evanston man had been shot and wounded on the same Rogers Park block last month.

  1. What’s Moore’s Point?

That Roger's Park would be free of gangs if not for Evanston? How does he explain the numerous other shootings in RP over the summer?

    1. Exactly!

Exactly!    Invisible dog fences, keeping Evanston gang people out of Skokie, Evanston gang people out of Chicago?   Border Patrols?  Yikes…..that was a totally silly comment on his part!  And irrelevant to the fact that people commit crimes everywhere!
