The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says the 18-year-old youth shot to death in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon was an Evanston resident.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released, a medical examiner’s office spokesman said this afternoon, because next of kin have not yet been identified.

But neighbors and acquaintences of the victim say he had grown up in south Evanston, just a few blocks from where he was killed, and that he was a student at Evanston Township High School.

Residents near the shooting scene in the 7400 block of North Ridge Boulevard told police they heard 10 to 20 gunshots shortly after 4 p.m. and found the victim lying in the street near a parked car.

He was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
