A 24-year-old Chicago man has been charged with raping a 19-year-old Evanston woman who he followed after they both got off a CTA bus.
Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says that about 1:55 p.m. Monday police were called to the Family Focus Center at 2010 Dewey Ave. by the victim, who said she’d just been attacked in the 1900 block of Dewey.
Parrott says the victim provided a detailed description of the assailant, that police were able to locate a subject matching the description a short time later at 1619 Church St. and that she positively identified him as her attacker.
Police say the man, Marlow S. Land of 219 N. Latrobe in Chicago, now has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault.
Police say the woman told them she’d gotten off the bus at Emerson Street and Dodge Avenue and was walking toward her home when she noticed Land following her. In the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue, police say, Land grabbed her, pulled her between two houses and then slammed her to the ground.
He then allegedly removed the victim’s clothing and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
Police say the victim sustained no serious physical injuries and was examined and released from a local hospital.
Parrott says that Land, who had come to Evanston to visit a friend earlier in the day, admitted to detectives that he’d assaulted the woman.
Land is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on April 5.
