Evanston police say a Chicago man was shot to death Friday evening near Twiggs Park in the 5th Ward.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew says 33-year-old Angel Miranda of the 2800 block of South Central Park Avenue in Chicago was shot numerous times in the chest and abdomen, apparently about 8 p.m.

Glew says officers were called to the scene, in the yard behind the Housing Authority of Cook County townhomes at 1823-1827 Simpson St., about 9:35 p.m. by friends Miranda had been visiting in the area who had discovered his body and called police.

Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Glew says police had responded to the area earlier in the evening, about 8 p.m., to investigate a call of shots fired but found nothing at that time.

He says no one is in custody.

Evanston police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are investigating. Anyone with information can call the Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040 or text CRIMES (274637) and start the message with EPDTIP.
