Evanston police say they arrested a 29-year-old Chicago woman on a weapons charge early today on Howard Street after officers noticed her van had expired registration tags.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew said the officers detected an odor of cannabis after stopping the car about 1:12 a.m. and that the driver, Jennifer Trujillo, turned over 4.1 grams of the drug.

After a female officer arrived on the scene to search Trujillo, Glew says, she told officers she was carrying a gun, and officers recovered a loaded Taurus PT PRO .45 caliber handgun from her.

Jennifer Trujillo.

Trujillo, of 6102 North Seeley Ave., now faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of cannabis, as well as traffic violations for having an expired registration and no proof of insurance.

She’s scheduled to appear in Skokie court at 9 a.m. on March 21.
