A couple who’ve worked to empower Evanston youth and an unusual cooperative arrangement between police departments were honored at the Evanston Mashup Wednesday evening.

Bob and Patty Reece won the 2015 Corrine Passage Spirit of Evanston Award and the City of Evanston and Northwestern University police departments received the 2015 Catalyst Award.

Insurance executive Bob Reece has served as president of the McGaw YMCA board and has been involved with the Fellowship of Afro-American Men youth basketball league for nearly 40 years.

Patty Reece, a retired District 65 school teacher, serves on the board of the Evanston Community Foundation and coordinates an essay contest for FAAM.

Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington and Northwestern University Police Chief Bruce Lewis were honored for the close cooperation established between the two deparments. Evanston is the only Big 10 city that has a co-jurisdiction agreement with the local university’s police department.

The MashUp networking evnet on the Northwestern lakefront is sponsored by NU, the city and the Evanston Chamber of Commerce.
