City officials say the construction project to repave Church Street, rebuild its sidewalks and add a protected bike lane is right on schedule.

City Engineer Sat Nagar says the work is “going great” and the contractor working on the project is expected to be finished with work on the sidewalks on the south side of the street, from Ridge to Chicago avenues, by Aug. 31.

Work on the north side of street is expected to start Aug. 27, with the full project to be completed by mid-October.

Nagar says the contractor is taking steps to minimize inconvenience to merchants and shoppers as the work continues and that at least one lane of auto traffic on Church Street will remain open during the project, which began Aug. 1.
