Update 2:00 p.m. | Chute Middle School on Oakton Street in Evanston was evacuated about 11 o’clock this morning, but students have now been allowed to return to the building.

School officials say the school received an anonymous telephoned bomb threat. Students and their teachers were evacuated from the building and bused to the Oakton and Dawes elementary schools nearby.

Alderman Ann Rainey, 8th Ward, said on her message board that the male caller claimed he was God and said a bomb had been planted at the school and was scheduled to go off within 24 hours

Evanston police searched the building and a county bomb squad canine unit conducted a second search before the students were allowed to return this afternoon.

School officials say students were served lunch at the two schools they were taken to before returning to Chute.

After school and evening activities at Chute were cancelled as a precautionary measure.
