The City of Evanston Wednesday announced the schedule of special trash and waste pickups that will begin in April.

If you have big stuff, such as sofas and bed springs that you want the city to take off your hands, the Streets and Sanitation Division is offering free removal of six cubic yards of bulk garbage on designated Friday pickup days.

How much is six cubic yards, you ask?

It’s roughly equivalent to two couches, four chairs, one mattress, and a box spring, or about 25 medium garbage bags full of debris, according to Streets and San.

The city warns that state law prohibits mixing yard waste with household waste, and it has rules to deal with that.

A complete schedule of pickups for this spring, along with the rules for disposing of various items, can be found on the city’s website.
