A band of moderate to heavy snow is expected to continue to blanket Evanston past midnight tonight, the city’s Public Work Agency says. And though parking restrictions are not in effect now, the agency is asking residents to help crews by not parking tonight on main thoroughfares posted as snow routes.

After midnight the precipitation may turn into a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow before turning to all rain by late Saturday morning, ending around 3 p.m.

Public Works crews have pretreated streets with brine, and will be on hand to clear streets throughout the event.

Voluntarily abiding by posted parking restrictions can help reduce the need for enforced parking restrictions in the days to come, says Edgar Cano, who directs the city’s snow removal efforts.
