The City of Evanston has released a list of 52 properties that officials say have unresolved overcrowding or building code violation complaints that are under investigation.

The vast majority of the properties are in the immediate area around the Northwestern University campus.

No details of the particular issues with individual properties were released, and since the cases remain unresolved, there’s been no judicial determination of whether violations actually occurred at the locations.

  1. I can’t help but notice…

    … that many of the cited buildings are among the neighborhood's biggest eyesores.  I am sympathetic to students, and how their financial situations may necessitate them splitting rent with others.

    I have no sympathies, however, for landlords who allow their buildings and the property around the buildings to become blights in the neighborhood.

    I would prefer that the city vigorously enforce existing rules about property upkeep and have less concern about having a 4th roommate in a unit.
