City officials will hold an information session on the city's facade improvement program for local businesses tonight at the Civic Center.

The program provides financial assistance to commercial property owners and tenants to improve and enhance the exterior of buildings.

Community and Economic Development Director Steve Griffin says the program "is designed to promote commercial activity throughout Evanston. The eligible exterior improvements help improve a business’ ability to bring in new customers and can support property owners’ efforts to attract new tenants.”

Eligible projects include painting, tuck pointing, installation of new lights, restoration of historic details, new awnings/signage and replacement of doors and/or windows.

The program provides financial assistance to property owners on a 50/50 cost sharing basis.

Would-be participants submit an application to the city. City staff presents applications to the Economic Development Committee for review. And the City Council acts on the recommendations of the committee.

Grant amounts can be up to $10,000 or more.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 2200 of the Civic Center at 2100 Ridge Ave. More information is available Visit the Economic Development Division online or by calling 847-448-8100.
