City OKs easement for sculpture on Kedzie

A bright red abstract sculpture will soon adorn a sidewalk planting bed outside the mixed-use building at 515 Kedzie St. in Evanston.

The City Council this week approved an easement permitting the building owners to place the scuplture in an existing fenced planting bed near the corner where Kedzie intersects with Chicago Avenue.

Some aldermen at the Administration and Public Works Committee meeting expressed puzzlement about what the sculpture was meant to represent. But they were assured by Community Development Director Mark Muenzer that it had been reviewed by the city's Arts Council.

The sculpture is being funded by the building's owners at no cost to the city, but the city is waiving its normal fees for the public-right-of-way easement for it.
