The grey and dreary winters are much more colorful with snow plows decked out with unique paintings from Evanston students.
The City of Evanston Streets and Sanitation Division invites all Evanston schools (both public and private) to participate in the third annual P.E.P. (Paint Evanston’s Plows) contest.
The P.E.P. contest is designed to increase the public’s awareness of the upcoming snow season. The theme for this year is “Tap Water: Good for You, Good for the Environment.”
Children are encouraged to show school spirit, City spirit and holiday and/or winter spirit in conjunction with the tap water theme. The contest is open to fourth graders and above.
Interested schools should email their requests to seggleston@cityofevanston.org or fax (847) 448-8127. The first 10 schools to respond will be invited to participate.
Each school will receive one snow plow and a paint kit. Plows will be delivered to schools on Sept. 29 and picked up on Oct. 24. All plows will be on display for public voting from Oct. 24 through 29 in front of the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
Plaques will be awarded in at least two categories Best “Theme,” Spirit and Evanstonians’ Choice.

The City needs its snow plow blades to be painted before winter so the snow will slide off easier, making snow cleanups faster and more efficient.
With the P.E.P. contest, the City saves money, since the City only pays for the paints, and the artistic labor is free — and the designs are much more interesting!
The City will add some clear coat on top of the colorful designs so they will last longer to be admired by the community throughout the dreary snow season.
