The City of Evanston is seeking residents’ help in winning Regional Transportation Authority grant funding to plan transit-oriented development around the city’s Main Street CTA and Metra stations.

The grant funds would also help evaluate ways to introduce high-quality office and technology space into the station area and improve connections between the two stations.

The RTA received 20 applications from communities around the region and Evanston’s proposal is included in a prelimary list of seven projects for 2012.

City officials say strong community support could lead to the city being awarded a signficant grant.

The public comment period for the grant program runs through the end of September. Comments can be sent by email to fundingprogramscomments@rtachicago.org with the Subject Line: City of Evanston. They may also be submitted by phone to (312) 913-5516.

After a review of comments by RTA staff, the RTA board is scheduled to consider approval of the grants on Oct. 20.
