Vehicle stickers for 2011 will be available for purchase at the city revenue office starting next Monday.
City ordinance requires owners of all vehicles registered to an Evanston address to pay an annual wheel tax and properly display a valid city vehicle sticker.
This year there are two vehicle sticker designs to choose from. One design features SASI – Services for Adults Staying in their Homes and the other design features the Evanston Baseball and Softball Association. If one design is sold out, residents will be given the design which remains.
Stickers are $75 for a passenger car. Vehicle stickers are also required for motorcycles ($50), recreational vehicles ($85), trailers ($30) and antique cars ($20). Motor trucks and tractor trailers also require a vehicle sticker that may vary from $105 to $320 based on gross weight.
The stickers are available at the Revenue Office in the Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Stickers will also be available for purchase at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays from Nov. 9 through Nov. 30, and at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays from Nov. 10 through Dec. 1.
Residents can also purchase their vehicle stickers online.
Stickers must be purchased and displayed by Jan. 10. A penalty of 50 percent of the fee will be added to all applications postmarked after Jan. 10.
The penalty for failing to display a vehicle sticker is $50 plus a $20 additional penalty if not paid within 10 days.
Seniors, 65 and older who meet income requirements, are eligible for a 50 percent discount on one vehicle sticker per household by obtaining a Senior Discount Card. Seniors must have filed their 2009 income tax returns either individually with an income of $30,000 or less, or jointly with an income of $50,000 or less to qualify. Cards issued last year will still be valid this year.
Seniors who do not have a discount card may apply for one in the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Office, in the Civic Center or at the Levy Senior Center. Questions about income requirements should be directed to the Levy Senior Center at 847-448-8250 or aging@cityofevanston.org.
Combo vehicle sticker and residential parking permits applications have been mailed to residents who’ve previously applied for them and also are available through the City’s Revenue Office or online. Combo forms can only be submitted by mail or in person to the City’s Revenue Office.
