The Democratic Party of Evanston has scheduled a special membership meeting for 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, to consider endorsing Forrest Claypool for Cook County Assessor.

Township Committeeman Jeff Schoenberg says supporters of Claypool’s independent campaign for assessor have submitted a petition calling for a DPOE membership vote.

Claypool is running as an independent in the November election against the winner of the Democratic primary, Joe Berrios, a commissioner on the county board of review, and the Republican nominee, Sharon Strobeck-Eckersall, a former Evanston Township assessor .

Schoenberg says the group’s rules require that 15 percent of the dues-paying membership, or 60 people, attend the meeting for there to be a quorum.

And a two-thirds vote of the members present would be required to win endorsement.
