Evanston’s Grosse Point Lighthouse could pick up some bucks to help restore it if enough fans of the lighthouse vote in an online poll.

The lighthouse, a national historic landmark, is one of 25 Chicago-area sites eligible for a share of $1 million in restoration funds to be distributed among projects that receive the most votes.

The contest is being sponsored by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

In the Chicago election tradition, participants are urged to vote early and often — but only once a day — at the contest website — between now and Oct. 10.

So far it doesn’t seem that Evanstonians have gotten with the program. The lighthouse was ranked 24th among the 25 sites when vote totals were checked this morning.

Let’s face it, the lighthouse is going to have to be fixed eventually – wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to pay for it? Please vote once a day and email this article to anyone you know in Evanston who can help!
