The wrecking ball ripped through dormitory and classroom buildings at the former Kendall College property in Evanston this week.

The three-acre site at Orrington Avenue and Lincoln Street is being cleared to build 20 new single-family homes priced from about $1 million to $1.5 million.

Developer Smithfield Properties won City Council approval of the project last September after a three-year fight with neighbors who bitterly opposed construction of any multi-family housing on the site.
