Community centers to open for Nichols kids

Three Evanston Recreation Division Community Centers will offer free open basketball all day on Wednesday, Sept. 15. for Nichols Middle School students whose school will be closed because of an ongoing police investigation into a fatal bomb explosion in a nearby park early this morning.

Three Evanston Recreation Division Community Centers will offer free open basketball all day on Wednesday, Sept. 15. for Nichols Middle School students whose school will be closed because of an ongoing police investigation into a fatal bomb explosion in a nearby park early this morning.

The Chandler-Newberger Center, 1028 Central St., will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Robert Crown Center, 1701 Main St., will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center, 1655 Foster St., will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

In addition, the McGaw YMCA will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to meet the needs of Nichols students and parents. The gym and youth lobby will be open as well as open swim at 10 a.m. Youngsters planning to stay for the day should bring their lunch. 

The Loft at the main branch of the Evanston Public Library will also be open.
