Evanston’s community development director, Mark Muenzer, is leaving after three-and-a-half years with the city.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz this afternoon announced “with sadness and appreciation” that Muenzer is moving to Menlo Park, California, to take a job as assistant community development director there.

Menlo Park is a community of about 33,000 people just south of San Franciso and houses the corporate headquarters of Facebook.

Bobiewicz said Muenzer “has led a great team in Community Development as they have tackled important development projects, assisted the City Council expand our inclusionary housing ordinance, and revised the Downtown Plan.  Individually. Mark’s service as the City’s first LGBT liaison continued Evanston’s efforts in supporting and championing LGBT issues in our community.”

Muenzer’s last day in Evanston will be March 9. Bobkiewicz says Planning and Zoning Administrator Scott Mangum will serve as interim community development director while a search is conducted for new permanent director.
