Deb Evans, chef at Evanston’s Peckish Pig restaurant, will kick off the season of cooking demonstrations at the Friends of Evanston Farmers Market Saturday morning.

She will be preparing roasted beets with buratta and pesto oil at the blue Friends tent in the southwest corner of the market, located in the parking lot behind the Hilton Garden Inn and adjacent to the city’s Maple Avenue parking garage.

The cooking demos will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In subsequent weeks, chefs from other Evanston restaurants, including Terra & Vine, Union Pizzeria & Campagnola, Taco Diablo, Farmhouse, Hewn, Smylie Brothers, and Hoosier Mama, will provide helpful hints to area cooks with recipes that utilize ingredients available at the market.
