Cops grab kids stealing candy from market

Four 14-year-olds from Chicago have been charged with robbery after they allegedly stole candy and snacks from the United Food Mart at 331 Howard St.

Evanston police say the shopkeeper said about eight youths entered the store around 7 p.m. Friday and grabbed about $60 worth items from the shelves before running out of the store.

Cmdr. Tom Guenther says that officers on patrol nearby in connection with previous trouble in the area saw two of the youths running from the store and chased them on foot into the Dominicks parking lot on the Chicago side of Howard where they were able to capture them.

Other officers responding to the call nabbed the two other youths in the 400 block of Howard.
